Uveitis / Iritis

Uveitis

  • The Uveal tract is divided into
    • anterior compartment – containing the iris and ciliary body
    • and the posterior compartment – containing the choroid

 

  • Uveitis may include infection of any of these
  • And may cause infection of the sclera, retina and optic nerve

Anterior Uveitis

  • Presents with:
    • Pain – over hours or days (except in trauma)
    • Redness
    • Photophobia
    • Blurred Vision
    • Increased lacrimation

Posterior Uveitis

  • Presents with
    • Blurred vision and floaters
    • Absence of symptoms of anterior uveitis

      Iritis

    • Inflammation of the iris
    • Iritis is most common type of uveitis
