Osteosarcoma

  • Metaphyses of long bones
  • Most commonly seen around knee and proximal humerus
  • Effect
  • Usually present with bone pain and a palpable lump

 

  • Xray:
    • Periosteal elevation “Codman’s Triangle”
    • “Sunburst” appearance – due to soft tissue involvement

 

  • Spread
    • Early
    • Haematogenous

 

  • Survival
    • 5 year survival is approx. 50%
