Lifestyle Modifications advice from NICE re Hyperlipidaemia / Statin

As recommended by NICE for reducing CKD risk:

Cardioprotective Diet

  • total fat intake ≤30% total energy intake
  • saturated fats should be ≤7% total energy intake
  • dietary cholesterol should be less <300mg/day
  • Saturated fats should be replaced by monounsatruated and polyunsaturated fats where possible
  • replace saturated and monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats with olive oil, rateseed oil, spreads based on these oils
  • choose wholegrain varieties of startchy food
  • reduced intatek of sugar and food products containing refined sugars including fructose
  • eat at least 5 portions for fruit and veg a day
  • eat at least two portions of fish a week including a portion of oily fish
  • eat at least 4 – 5 portions of unsalted nuts, seeds and legumes per week

Physical Activity

  • each week aim for at least 150minutes of moderate intesnsity aerobic activity or 75mins of vigorous intensity aerobic acitivty of a mix of both
  • do muscle strengthening exercises on 2 or more days a week

Weight Managment

  • no specific advice is give, overweight patients should be managed in keeping with relevant NICE guidelines

Alcohol Intake

  • no specific advice other than no more than 3-4units men and 2-3units women per day
