Drug interactions

  • Grapefruit increases plasma concentration of statins
  • Star fruit may contain toxins be very careful in renal failure
  • Ibuprofen can reduce Excretion of methotrexate – increasing
  • Cranberry juice may effect warfarin
  • Beta blockers in combination with thiazide diruretics increases risk of diabetes
  • avoid colchicine in amiodarone (increased risk of colchicine toxicity) and statins (increased risk of myopathy)
  • Avoid PPIs with clopidogrel – they may make clopidogel less effective
  • Clarithromycin + simvastatin can result in rhabdomyolysis
