Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome – Diagnosis

  1. Severe Chronic Fatigue for 4 months or longer (3 months in child or young person) – having ruled out other known medical conditions
  2. Concurrently Four or more of the following:
  • Substantial impariement in short term memory /concentration
  • Sore Throat
  • Tender lymph nodes
  • Muscle pain
  • Multi joint pain without swelling or redness
  • Headache of a new type, pattern or severity
  • Post-extertional malaise lasting more than 24hours


  • Cognitive behavioural therapy
  • and or graded exercise therapy
  • should be offered to people with mild to moderate CFS / ME

There is currently no evidence for any other treatment options.
